Black Forest, Germany, hiking, waterfall

Hey, you want to go hiking?

Sure, where?

How about the Black Forest?

This was the conversation Hubby and I had a few days ago.  Stuttgart is right on the edge of the famed a Black Forest.  Yes, we have a clock.  We decided to go check out Germany’s tallest waterfall.  We  also decided to get in a couple of hours of hiking.

Come along and enjoy the beauty of nature.

challenge, Go Ruck Light, hiking, weight training

Call me crazy.  I will try most things once.  I think that is how I got roped into doing a Go Ruck Light.

I have one AMAZING Hubby.  We love spending time together.  About 18 months ago in order to just that, he picked up running.  He has completed two half marathons.  Well over the Christmas holidays he was telling me about something he wanted to do- Go Ruck.  Me, being the supportive person I am, told him to go for it!  He then said I missed the point.  He wanted us to do this together.  Oh boy.

I started to investigate.  I watched the videos.  I laughed.  I cried.  I thought he was nuts.  I was scared.  I told him all of that.  I am not one that ‘enjoys’  demonstrating weakness.  Trust me, I have plenty.  I just deal with it my way.  Hubby said challenge yourself.  Well, that is what I have choose to do on the 26th of April.  Hubby and I will be participate in the Go Ruck Light in the lovely city of Stuttgart, Germany.

What is a Go Ruck Light?  It is more that carrying a 35 lbs ruck sack on your back for 4 hours.  We will be doing bear crawls, passing the ruck, and a bunch of other ‘fun’ things.  I am beginning to feel the walking around with 35 lbs on your back is the easy part.

To me, this is my marathon.  How will I do?  I can honestly say I do not know.  I have  been training for this over the last month.  I have lifted more weights and hiked more miles (with the 35 lbs ruck) than I have ever thought I would.  The great thing is I have been doing it with Hubby.  This is our weekends right now.  It is our quality time.  I am thinking after this, we should find another way to spend quality time together!

When I say I am going to do something, I put everything I am into it.  Hubby knows that.  I will complete this.  I might be the worst of the lot (it is a team activity) and I am truly okay with that!

Have I said lately I really love my Hubby?

It’s Beginning!

Fall, foliage, hiking, Running, weekends

It is no secret that I love this time of year.  I came home yesterday to this.

This is a bench in our front yard.  Walking past it as I was coming  home put a huge smile on my face.  I stopped.  I smiled.  I took a deep breath.

The leaves are starting to turn.  In the coming weeks the  colors of harvest will be coming alive.  The trees will be bursting with deep forest greens, mustard yellows, and russets.  Just taking a walk will be a main event.

As we head into a long weekend (holiday on Monday!), I look forward to three days of nice long runs and afternoons of hiking.  What a perfect way to spend a couple of days with family.

Happy weekend everyone!

Bavaria, Eibsee, Germany, hiking

Our first day was wonderful, nerve-wracking, but just so refreshing!

As we were going up the cable car to the Zugspitz, Hubby said, “Cool, a lake.” Of course I was not really paying attention, I was just trying to remember to inhale and exhale.

At dinner, we chatted about what we wanted to do the next day.  I said what about the lake.  We agreed!  Love it when that happens!

The Eibsee was just beyond amazing.  We spent over five hours just hiking around.

Here is why!

What better way to start your day!  The sun was out.  The clouds were just accent pieces to the sky.

There were a lot of people who had the same thoughts we did.  There was a kids biathlon going on.  It was so cool to watch these little guys and gals jump out of the water and hit the running trail.  I was very inspired by these children!

All of their little bikes were ready after their run.  Hubby and I stood and cheered them on.

Then we continued our morning!

I cannot even begin to describe the colors of the lake.  The shades of blue and green were so spectacular.  We just stopped and admired nature’s palette.

Of course, having mountains in the background only enhanced the scene.

simplydaisies

Amazing!

Onward and upward we went!

simplydaisies

We were not in any hurry.  We wanted to take our time.  We talked.  We people watched.  We nature watched.  It was perfection.

What’s not to love!

simplydaisies

simplydaisies

I’m a sucker for waterfalls.  Especially, ones that just trickle down.

simplydaisies

The trails did not disturb nature’s placement of things.

simplydaisies

I just love this picture.  The beautiful tree standing so gracefully alone on the trail.

We had an amazing day hiking around this lake.  We did work up an incredible appetite though! This evening we headed to a local biergarten that was right down the street from our hotel.  We shared goulash and breaded pork.  Yum!

Tomorrow I will finish up our trip with some odds and ends!

Have a fabulous Thursday!

Bavaria, Bavaria painted furniture, Garmisch, Germany, hiking, Partnach gorge

Last week Hubby and I skipped town for a few days to commune with nature.  We knew where we wanted to go.  Bavaria.  Garmisch, Germany.  We booked our hotel back in April.  This was not our first time in this lovely area.  It had been about seven years since our last visit.  It was time for our return.

The only items on our agenda were hiking and great food.  I will say we accomplished both items!

One place we wanted to go was to the Partnach Gorge.  We had never been there and just the idea of being that close to water roaring past you was well, thrilling!

Of course, we never do things the easy way!  It was a rainy day.  We had read that it was about a 20 minute walk where we would be surrounded by little stands.  Well, we missed that walk!  We ended up on a gondola ride to God knows where and walked down to the gorge by mistake! However, it ended up being a wonderful hike that we so enjoyed.

As I said it was a little wet.

Come and take a hike with us!

We were in awe.  Such beauty.  However, we found a sign that said Partnachklamm.  I was quite excited!  I knew we were getting very close.  We keep walking.

simplydaisies

simplydaisies

Water!  Klamm means gorge in German.

simplydaisies

simplydaisies

This is the ‘calm’ part.

Let’s go ‘inside’.

simplydaisies

As we entered the gorge, the walk way is narrow and you guessed it, wet.  There were a lot of people out and we were coming from the opposite direction (see told you, we do things the hard way!)

simplydaisies

simplydaisies

Here is a view looking up!

simplydaisies

simplydaisies

Another one.

Halfway down the gorge there is this….

simplydaisies

simplydaisies

this was a sight.  That is all natural light.  Fabulous!

I was a little shocked to find people carrying umbrellas.  It made passing a little tight.

We had so much fun getting lost and finding our way to our original destination.

And we did find the walk with all the little stands!  I also found a couple of other interesting things!  First, as we were coming off the gorge trail, I saw this….

simplydaisies

simplydaisies

This was an run down house.  I was telling Hubby that we could buy it and fix it up.  He was not convinced…..

The second thing that I saw as we were leaving the trail was this….

simplydaisies

simplydaisies

I do not know about you, but I do not keep Bavarian painted pieces in an outdoor shed.  If I could have found the owner, I would have gladly taken it off his hands.  He would then have more space for items that actually belong in an outdoor shed.

Garmisch was home to the 1936 Winter Olympics.  Where we ended up after our gorge walk was the stadium they held the ski jump competition.

simplydaises

All the formal stuff on the stadium.  They still hold world competitions each December.

You would have to pay me some good money to get on even the little one!  I think I will stick to the stands and cheer.

It was a fun morning.   Tomorrow I will share our afternoon.

biking, cooking, hiking, reading, time

A couple of years ago, I balked at those two words.  When you have kids you are running around with them.  When Amazing Daughter went to college our lives changed.  Of course we became college parents, empty nesters.  The first weekend we were back after dropping her off, we sat there and just looked at each other.  We did not have a volleyball, basketball or soccer game or tournament to attend.  We were not coordinating our weekend plans with hers.

Odd, we thought this new life was.  However, after the third weekend we were planning and doing.  Loved it!!!!

I do miss the sports events.  But now we have time on our hands.  We are masters at making the most out of our time.  We work hard during the week.  When Friday evening rolls around, we shed those thoughts, that routine for one that is slower paced (sometimes), and make the most of every single minute.  Making the most might be sitting on my sofa reading a book but it is my time.

Having this free time has us discovering things we like to do.  We are in better shape physically than we have been in a long while.  I am learning to be adventurous as I cook.  I am really enjoying decorating.

Now that the weather is FINALLY starting to warm up, hiking and biking will be added to our weekends and free time.  YEA!

Free time, is something that is sacred.  It should be personal.  It should be appealing!

What do you like to do in your free time?
