Each year Hubby and I treat each other to a trip For Christmas. This year, we headed to the land of sun, tapas, wine, and Gaudi… Barcelona.
For our first Spanish experience, Barcelona set the bar very high! We enjoyed our time in this Catalonia paradise.
Our first day was a little windy (23 mph), but oh the sun. We headed first to the cathedral. It was an amazing sight.
We love touring old churches. There is just something about them. I always think of the novel Pillars of the Earth. They did not have the modern technology when they broke ground, and yet, it is still standing.
Fabulous right? The best part was the back of the church.
In the back we found an enclosed garden. It had a fountain, walkways, of course plants. Since it was the Christmas season, the area was turned into the nativity.
In this area we found some friends.
Next we headed down to the Port Vell part of town.
All hail Mr. Columbus! Even though the wind was doing it’s thing, we could not take our eyes off the sky. It was beautiful. I could not get over how blue and calming it was.
This is the old customs house at the entrance of the port. The architecture was so clean and elegant.
I loved these!!! I know they have a purpose, Just the clean white next to the blue of the water and the sun shining brightly made them sparkle!
So this is the end of part one. Tomorrow we will take the Gaudi tour. What an artist he was….
Till next time, enjoy!
